About this deal

Evie Porter has everything a nice, Southern girl could want: a perfect, doting boyfriend, a house with a white picket fence and a garden, a fancy group of friends. While their bodies are frozen, their minds, still active and awake, are uploaded into a massive quantum computer.

From alchemy and modern Wicca to paganism and shamanism, this enchanting book takes you on a mystical journey that will leave you spellbound. Sophie Page who was consulted throughout the book, each person involved in the writing of A History of Magic, Witchcraft, and the Occult has extensively studied magical history from a historian's point of view. I think I may have picked up tidbits here and there, but overall, knowledge-wise, it feels like a wash. As part of the course, you will be encouraged to draw on your own experiences in relating to the material taught in the course, through discussions and open questions, such as areas where we might be superstitious, have talismanic objects we turn to, or even have more definite beliefs or disbeliefs in supposed praeternatural forces. There is not too much on other cultures and what "magic" is like in those cultures, but I am left to assume that it has something to do with a lack of knowledge and understanding and perhaps the desire to be respectful to those cultures. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. Asimismo, nos aporta información extra con un sinfín de imágenes que apoyan el texto y amplían el conocimiento. I especially loved the section on Byzantine court magic and learning about chremetismomancy or the practice of interpreting the neighs of horses as a form of divination! I did enjoy this book, its not overwhelming but it does spark wanting to learn more, which for a contextual reference book, that's exactly the goal!

A History of Magic, Witchcraft and the Occult charts the extraordinary narrative of one of the most interesting and often controversial subjects in the world, covering everything from ancient animal worship and shamanism, through alchemy and divination to modern Wicca and the resurgence of the occult in 21st-century literature, cinema, and television. They also publish books for children, toddlers and babies, covering such topics as history, the human body, animals and activities, as well as licensed properties such as LEGO, Disney and DeLiSo, licensor of the toy Sophie la Girafe. My career as a voice actor had been over for months and me and my little girl Scarlet were living back at my mum’s place. Still, if there is an oral tradition, I am unaware of with some of this that could be accounted for. If you’re interested in learning more about the history of magic, I would also recommend The History of Magic by Chris Gosden (which gives a more in-depth survey of the subject, and which I reviewed in a previous blog post), and from a British perspective, Pagan Britain by Professor Ronald Hutton and The Book of English Magic by Philip Carr-Gomm and Richard Heygate. La maquetación y la portada y contraportada es preciosa, lo único ""malo"" es que el papel es satinado y se mancha fácilmente de las huellas de los dedos.
