About this deal

The Can-O-Worms Working Tray can be used to replace a damaged Working Tray or it can be added to your worm farm in addition to your existing Can-O-Worms Working Trays.

My Can-o-Worms arrived with a small bag of potting compost like substance which went in immediately. I just add half an inch thick layer then spray it down while fluffing it and repeat until I reach the desired depth. This large capacity wormery (75cm x 57cm x 39cm) includes 18 litre trays which we found produced good quality compost. Unlike nightcrawlers that like to burrow and dislike being in congested places, red wigglers are the total opposite.

My choice of bedding material for the initial layer is corrugated cardboard because of its internal structure (the flutes) it allows an excellent air flow, cardboard retains moisture very well and the glue used is corn based and is good food source for the worms.Single-chamber wormeries: this style consists of one large, single chamber where the waste is processed all together. Ventilated collector tray with worm mound, tap and sump – the bottom tray of the wormery, it has a solid base and tap.

Overfeeding can cause all sorts of problems, decaying food is covered in mould, bacteria and fungii this is what the worms actually feed on but when it turns stagnant it becomes a different thing altogether and worms will be driven away so always keep the food layer to under 2″ or 5cm this may mean that you do not add any more for several days or even weeks it all depends on the time of year and the size of the worm population in the wormery, feed a little at a time and watch what the worms have done with the last feed, winter is a quiet time for worms. The worms will wriggle their way into the new tray via the holes in its base so that they can reach their new food. The ‘mound’ at the centre of this tray has been designed so that any worms that fall into this tray are able to climb back up. Made from breathable, 100% natural fibre (bio-degradable jute fibre), the blanket is thicker than a hessian bag and will break down as your worms work within the wormery – you can expect the worm blanket to last for between 3-6 months before it will need replacing. Compact, odorless, and efficient, this composter will yield beautiful, densely nutritious compost that your plants and gardens will thrive on.

The world’s best-selling worm farm has been designed with built-in mounds to encourage worms to move from collector trays to working trays, unique flow-through ventilation to maximise performance, and no mess extras like well-designed legs and a drip-free tap. My only concern about newspaper is that it forms a complete barrier, so the worms can only get on top via the edges.

These dendrobaena composting worms are self-regulating, the more food available the more they will breed. This multi-leveled composter keeps worms on the bottom tray, and all you’ll have to do is feed them your unused food scraps!Simply pop the mat on the very top of your wormery (just below the lid) and then lift to add waste underneath. Features a unique stacking design which allows the worms to “eat their way up” to their food, leaving their nutrient dense castings behind. as the worms reduce the food keep adding a bit more at a time, ignore any advice that tells you worms will consume twice their own weight or 2kg or 10kg per day or whatever. Not only will bacteria, fungi, insects and other microorganisms be present in the system, there will be worms to your care as well. Our testers found the trays easy to handle but that the “stop” between them prevented worms from working upwards, even though aeration was improved.
