About this deal

Soothing and Healing: Beeswax is known to possess anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, making it beneficial for soothing irritated or inflamed skin. This means that candelilla wax can improve the ability of your recipe to reduce frizz, add shine and smoothness. Its production began around the early 1900s and has been used in the making of candles and waterproof equipment, later becoming an important ingredient in cosmetics.

Candelilla Wax must never be used near the inner nose and ears, or on any other particularly sensitive areas of skin. The world Candelilla translates to "little candle", so Candelilla Wax has a long and traditional use as a Candle Wax. It’s great for hardening other waxes, but its addition will have the added of not raising their melting point. This emulsifying property mainly helps water and oil constituents to bind together with a smooth uniformity, a necessary effect for products like moisturizers, such as lotion bars, creams, and balms, to which Candelilla Wax is known to offer hydrating properties and easy spread over the skin’s surface. Candelilla wax is great to use on oily skin types as it is non-comedogenic, meaning it will not clog pores when used on the skin.

The Postcode Foundation’s goal is to carry out that mission through projects that challenge, inspire and promote change. Dry Scalp related hair products especially benefit as the Candelilla Wax is easily absorbed by the scalp. It's a great vegan alternative to beeswax for your balm and body butter products as it's rich in nutrients and helps to bind other ingredients together, whilst also creating a workable texture that is easily absorbed into the skin. The conservation and sustainable use of wild plants and non-wood forest products is a key area of work in the FAO Forestry Division, with the aim of contributing to the sustainable management of the world’s forests, the conservation of biological diversity, and ultimately improving livelihoods, food security and nutrition. We are really particular about where the wax on our site comes from, and we will only source it from locations that we can trust.

The plant will be cut and left to dry in natural sunlight, as this is by far the best way to prepare it for the extraction of the wax. The wax is obtained by boiling the leaves and stems with dilute sulfuric acid, and the resulting "cerote" is skimmed from the surface and further processed.
