About this deal

Unfortunately, compared to what they’ve discovered in the rest of Tekkno, these are the weaker points. Spaceman’ (featuring German rapper Finch) has lively techno moments that are contrasted by big metalcore sections and EDM choruses which hail rave culture. None of this should work, but it just does, I have not been excited about an album for a long time as this one. With tons of energy and fun on board, the band from Castrop-Rauxel delivers an unprecedentedly fulminant metalcore-firework that is second to none. Right from the get-go on the album opener ‘Pump It’, we’re thrown into a track that is reminiscent of groups like Attack Attack!

The last section of the track is full to the brim with blast beats and rapid double kicks, as well as growls, screeches, and even a pig squeal thrown in for good measure. Well, it’s a prime example of how I explain this band to new potential fans – it’s like a metalcore version of The Lonely Island meets Weird Al Yankovic. The next track is ‘ Fuckboi‘ and this single saw the boys venture into pop punk territory alongside US metal act Conquer Divide, once again showcasing the diverse range of genres this album tackles and the end result of this one alone has been nothing short of amazing. Tuonela Magazine described the album as a "mash-up between Eurodance-inspired tunes and brutal djent-sprinkled riffs.

None of these elements are easy to conduct well and the standard is certainly much higher when new listeners only know you for screaming over what could be a Scooter track.

Since then, they auditioned to represent Germany in Eurovision this year, and had every piece of music they’ve released become wildly successful, an absolute demolition of their peers’ achievements (or lack thereof) about a decade ago. And it says it all when Wikipedia don't even mention where they charted for any of their albums in UK and US. Their award-winning outrageousness is what got them sky-high on the charts and consistently selling out shows all over the world. The style of both clean vocalists (no screaming in sight) is undeniable and it even includes a vocal layer that sounds identical to the opening note of the chorus in Avril’s ‘Bite Me’. Vocal-wise, think of Michael Bolton meets Chester Bennington (around the ‘ BURN IT DOWN‘ / LIVING THINGS album era of Linkin Park), with hard rock/EDMcore vibes and synth-a-plenty, this doesn’t have the same energy as the pit friendly tracks we’ve mentioned throughout, but it serves as the perfect closer and interlude into whatever this band of misfits do next.On 6 December 2021, the band submitted "Pump It" into the German national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2022, [4] but ultimately were not included in the final list of participants. This is their 6th album, and it appears Germany have been keeping them a secret since they formed in 2010. But let’s not just focus on EC in this synth-metal-pop jam, yes it’s their album, but Conquer Divide offer so much to the mix that literally couldn’t be done without them.

I’ve included the live version below so you can get an understanding of what you’re in for – and help you get pit ready in anticipation – because you’re gonna need that stamina mates!

Yes, that does indeed help, but there’s also everything from specific tempos, to whole sections in German on Spaceman and Hurrikan, to the fact that no non-European act would be undignified enough to put their name to Arrow Of Love or Tekkno Train (in a good way, of course. The vibrant, almost sappy melody takes a dangerous, sharp turn at the 1-minute mark into something that seems to come from the depths of hell itself.

For frivolous lyrics like, “We are young, we are free / sippin’ on booze on a sunny beach,” I’ll gladly bring out my glowsticks. Instead, it’ll open up a new world of possibilities within this EDM meets Metal phase we are currently seeing a rise of throughout the scene, and I wouldn’t be half surprised if more bands/producers head down this path with future releases, especially if they want to try and bring across fans from both respected genre-fields. Metalcore (or metallic hardcore) is a fusion music genre that combines elements of extreme metal and hardcore punk. If you felt like something was missing on previous albums, as I did, it looks like everything has come full circle. As for ‘ Hurrikan‘, well, by now you should know how this song sounds because it was only released as a single last month and goddamn it’s the biggest WTF?
