In 1980 Roman was invited to join Polka Theatre in Wimbledon as an actor and in ’81 as the associate director and has proudly been involved with the theatre for over 42 years helping to direct/produce more than 90 plays at Polka aimed for our younger audiences - both for the Main Stage and the Adventure Theatre. Over the years, Roman has worked with many leading writers: Bryony Lavery, Mike Kenny, Brendan Murray, Lynne Read Banks, Charles Way, Phillip Pullman to name a few. The style of work has varied from directing straight forward drama plays through to musicals via pure puppet shows. His productions have taken him around the world with performances in Australia, Brazil, Hong Kong, Qatar, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Turkey and USA as well as the UK Tom Fletcher said, “I’m so excited to see 'There's a Monster In Your Book,' come to life on stage! The whole journey is incredibly exciting and I can’t wait to get to rehearsals to meet the puppets. Theatre is such an important way to introduce children to the arts and ‘There’s a Monster In Your Show’ is the perfect first theatre trip for pre-schoolers and their families. I’m so looking forward to seeing their reactions first-hand." Aside from her stage work, Miranda’s TV credits include Head Writer for a new TV series, Pop Paper City for Channel 5 Milkshake, which recently won a Royal Television Society South Award for ‘Best Short Form’. Monster, the new Greenpeace animation, might feel familiar. That’s because it’s the sequel to Rang-Tan which highlighted the role of palm oil in deforestation. He specialised more in mime and practiced as well as taught the skill in various schools and colleges in the late seventies. A high-energy 50-minute adventure featuring lively original music, this show is the perfect introduction to live theatre. And once you’ve done that, find out how you can get involved with Greenpeace’s latest campaigns.Industrially produced meat is the world’s largest cause of deforestation. Meat is big business, and companies are producing it on a scale that our planet simply can’t sustain. But if we switched to a more plant-based diet, we’d need a lot less land to grow our food. In his freelance capacity Roman also coaches, teaches and directs at many drama colleges, which includes ALRA, E15 and Drama Studio London, RCSSD, and is an experienced mask and puppetry director/consultant for various theatre companies.

The performance at 5pm on 19th December is a SEN performance with smaller audience numbers (limited at 50% capacity) and unreserved seating, so you’re free to sit wherever you like. Noise levels will be reduced and the house lights will remain partially on throughout. You’re free to enter and exit the auditorium if you need to during the performance, and a quiet space will be available outside of the auditorium. I think we read it together about three or four times and then Little Guy decided to read it to Gramma.
